This is partially shameless promotion and partially an idea to bring the community more closer together (in realtime).

Dopefish checked that is the channel #machinima free and it is! Or it was, now me and him are holding the fort.

I hereby welcome all of you to idle there!

In order to get to irc, get for example mIRC, configure the nicknames etc to your liking and join any Quakenet server.

Once connected, type /join #machinima

If the mods of this site consider this as filthy and un-wanted advertising, pleace accept my apologies and delete this topic to the depths of hell :whistling:

If I can figure it out I will install thye live chat feature intot he boards tonight or tomorrow so we can coordinate this channel. However do realize often live chat makes the info on a board get less and less due to live questions. So there will be good and bad to this :)

Hmm... people are dropping in and out constantly. Soo far Drewbie, Tristan, Olibith, Justin583 and Dead Workers Party have joined in and left soon there after. The channel needs idlers to stay alive and to become active. Just leave it up running in your background if nothing else. Thanks!

Here's a small tutorial to connect: (don't be scared of the size, it's just very thoroughly)
1. Go to http://www.mirc.com/get.html
2. Right click on a mirror and choose "Save as..."
3. Once the download is completed, locate where you saved it and double click on the file to start the installation
4. Read through the instructions or simply click "Next" until you've completed the installation
5. Start the program from either the desktop, your start menu or from the folder where it got installed
6. You'll be greeted by a "About mIRC"-window that asks you to register, but you can simply press "Continue"
7. You should now see the "mIRC Options"-window, where you need to fill out some information before you're able to connect (To bring it up again simply press ALT + O)
8. You don't have to fill out your real name or email address, but be sure to pick the nickname you want to use, and an alternative if that one is already taken
9. When you've filled out all the information, click on "Servers" in the left part of the window
10. Click on the "IRC Network:" list, and locate Quakenet, then click on "Connect To Server"
11. If you aren't behind a firewall, the program should now be connecting properly and just wait until its finished
12. To enter the channel, write "/join #machinima" (without the quotations) and you're done!

--- Additional steps ---

13. To make sure no one else takes your nickname or impersonate you, you'll have to 'auth' yourself
14. To do this simply write "/msg Q hello email@address.com email@address.com" (again, without the quotations, and where 'email@address.com' is your email address)
15. You might get "Someone's already registered with the account name 'Nickname'!" or "Change your nick to something without special characters (ie: `~^[]{}|_\) in it." error messages, and if so, try another using another nickname
16. If done correctly, basic instructions and your login information will be mailed to the email address you provided, so be sure that it's valid (if you don't see any mail, check your SPAM filter)
17. When you've recieved the mail, go back to mIRC and press ALT + O to bring up the "mIRC Options" window
18. Choose "Options" in the left window, and then click on "Perform..."
19. In the "Perform"-window, click on "Add" and find "Quakenet" in the list of networks, then press OK
20. Under "Perform commands:", write "/msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org auth username password" (where username is the nickname you used when you authed, and password, is the password that got mailed to you)
21. Press enter to make a new line and write "/join #machinima"
22. Make sure "Enable perform on connect" is checked and then press "OK", and "OK" again
23. Now you'll automaticly auth and join #machinima whenever you connect to quakenet

The channel is slowly gaining popularity now, thanks to Olibith, BaronSoosdon and everyone else that's advertising the channel in their movies or movie descriptions. I suggest that anyone who haven't decided to join it yet, should strongly reconsider. I would especially like to see more of the Dead Workers in there, and that Oxhorn could drop by and say hello :thumbsup:
