An easily frightened dwarf stumbles upon a strange machine in the middle of the road. Little does he know that this "metal pig" is about to take him and his friends on quite an adventure. From sexy dancing girls to deep dark dungeons (where a familiar man lurks), this Rumpus Machine has a mind of its own!

Created for and entered in the 2008 Blizzcon machinima contest. Special thanks to the one and only Deckard Cain for making an appearance!

Edit: Someone wanna move this to the right forum? I'm a dunce today!

I'll be there as well as Macheath. I'm staying at the Hilton and will be arriving there mid to late afternoon on Thursday. I've been thinking about hitting up Knott's Berry Farm Thursday night for their halloween stuff, but could be talked out of it.

Recently I've been communicating with whomever it is that responds to the [email protected] e-mail address about the machinima booth they had at last year's Blizzcon. I was dismayed to learn that they were not going to have a booth this year and instead were just planning to have a discussion panel with the DVD/Video team. Now, I'm not against that, but the rationale that having a discussion panel is better than providing the intimate setting of the booth is somehow better is just misguided.

I'll repost my e-mails for any interested people to see:

QUOTE (Drewbie)
I was curious if there was going to be a machinima booth at Blizzcon
this year? I really enjoyed the booth last year and the opportunity
it provided to meet and network with others that share my hobby and
interest. It seemed like there was a constant flow of people to the
booth to meet with the artists and see some clips of their work. I
certainly hope that some floor space at the convention is devoted to
this art form and that perhaps people would be able to view not only
the winners on the big screen Friday night, but also some of the
entries into the contest over the course of the weekend and then
replays of the winners the following day over at the booth.

Please let me know if this is in the plans and if not, who I should
contact to try to convince them to include it in the plans.

Thank you,
Drew Syring

Greetings Drew,

Thank you taking the time to write and for your interest in Machinima!
There will not be a Machinima Booth this year, however, there will be a
DVD/Video Production panel where machinimators will be welcome to ask
questions. Please let us know if you have any more questions and we look
forward to seeing you at Blizzcon!

QUOTE (Drewbie)
That is horribly, horribly unfortunate. I have no interest in talking
to the DVD/Video production panel and I fear that not many other will
either. There is a thriving community of machinima enthusiasts with
several websites, forums, IRC channels, etc. devoted to the art of
machinima and how to do it better. Having the team available during a
booth session for one on one time was great and it was nice to see the
folks doing this for a living working with Blizzard, but meeting the
rest of the artists that make the films I love was far more important
to me. Blizzard as an organization doesn't output a very high volume
of machinima so I fail to see why an entire panel would be devoted to
that.

This is just another slap int he face of the US warcraft machinima
community. The European machinimators often are profiled on the main
page and many machinima works are showcased on the site. Here we get
weekly updates on fan art and comics, while the extent of machinima
coverage is a list of the entries from last year's Blizzcon contest.
The two things we had going for us as a group were that the winning
movies were played on a big screen, in full, to an audience of our
peers, and that there was a small space at the convention to gather
and meet other artist to share tips, trade contact information, and in
many cases, plan collaborations for the future.

If there is any way to bring back the booth for this year's
convention, I urge you strongly to pursue it. It is honestly one of
the only reasons I had planned to come to the convention at all and
hearing after I purchased my ticket that it wouldn't exist is enough
to make me reconsider spending any more money on airfare and hotels.

Hello Again Drew,

We very much appreciate the support of machinima as an art form, and
please don't misunderstand the negation of a booth to be a retraction of
emphasis on machinima as a valid, pursued and celebrated art form. We do
hope that you attend in the hopes that other machinimators will join you
and provide a central hub for those who are interested in meeting their
peers.

This is certainly not meant to be a slap in the face, merely a way to
set up an actual discussion between machinimators and employees
currently working for Blizzard entertainment. We highly encourage you to
set up meetings between current machinimators and we hope that this does
not discourage artists from being proactive about networking and sharing
their love of machinima.

Your concerns will gladly be passed on, and we sincerely hope that
you still plan on attending Blizzcon.

QUOTE (Drewbie)
Wish I knew who I was speaking to so I could return the courtesy of a greeting.

I guess I just don't follow how having them on a main stage rather than in a more personal setting like the booth is seen as "better" to whomever made that decision. Again, just making my feelings known.

I can tell you that the "central hub" most machinima artists I've talked to plan to use will be the bar across the street rather than the actual convention as more than a few prominent ones weren't able to get tickets and apparently won't be getting any from Blizzard with the booth going away.

Perhaps the panel could open up to more than just the DVD/Video team and some of the prolific producers could be included? Just a thought.

I encourage anyone that would like to see a return of the booth to email [email protected] and voice your concerns. Regardless, I will be attending and look forward to seeing many of you there.

I'd suggest doing a bit of browsing of the site first. There are many helpful topics and guides that should cover things beyond what programs you need.

I prefer to look at it as Snacky's Journal going on hiatus rather than the end, but regardless, that is awesome and I'm so very happy for you!

I'm curious to see some reviews from the folks on this site. I've seen some really well thought out reviews that give honest remarks about it, and I've seen a whole lot of smoke being blown up Myndflame's asses.

My thoughts, and there may be spoilers.

Turning on the movie, I knew I'd come in with notions that this movie wasn't going to live up to the standards that both the community and the producers themselves have hyped this thing to be. I tried very hard to sit back and just appreciate it as a stand alone piece without comparisons to other films. For that reason I haven't watched any of Myndflames other stuff or really any other Machinima (except our stuff that's being worked on) in a couple weeks.

So, now going in with as clean a slate as I could muster, I am visually stunned. I'm picking out that the robot's eyes are from the deep run tram walls and trying to piece together how the robot was made. The visuals in this movie are just amazing. Every shot is carefully put together and nearly flawless. I went back and replayed a few scenes just to try to pick up on where these shots came from and how they were done. The only knock I can have against it at all is that when the bear from Rasi fell from the sky, it was a bit too anime for my tastes. But that's so minor, it's not worth mentioning.

So the whole time I'm riveted by what I'm seeing, but I've got ears too. The music is wonderful and really does a good job of ratcheting up what you're seeing in the scenes. It didn't overpower or draw attention to itself and did it's job well. I was pretty disappointed to get to the end only to hear "Learn to Play" again rather than a new song, but again, it's a minor issue.

Now we get to the parts that I can't really be all that glowing about. Story-wise, this thing was all over the place without really getting anywhere. ID:SS was a jumbled bunch of nonsense, but it had some quotable lines and was funny, more or less, throughout. The lack of cohesive story and weak script wasn't as evident as it was in ID:EFO. Myndflame has said before that their script writing is the weakest part of their skill set and it really showed. There were still parts that made me laugh, but they were also things that weren't new to this movie. A "goggles do nothing" gag is funny, but not really cutting edge comedy. That scene with the log, bunny, mini-Diablo, and Dirti is still the only scene that sticks out to me as making me laugh. The rest of it tried hard to move the plot or make me laugh, but in the end it only served to slow down the action between the great visuals. With the time and effort involved in the production of this movie and with the admitted multiple rewrites that went into it, I can't figure out how they got to this point and decided it was good enough to couple with their other, much more impressive skills.

In the end, it was a very pretty movie with a great soundtrack, but it wasn't something that I'd watch again for the story. I can't compare it to ID:SS because I thought that film suffered from the same issues. The end of the film makes a 3rd movie seem inevitable, and I truly hope there is another someday, hopefully sooner than later. That said, I'm willing to wait the extra time for a good script can be developed to pull this jumbled mess together and catch the writing up with the rest of the greatness that Myndflame has proved they can do.

You work with cows. How their faces move while speaking isn't really anything I can begin to wrap my hands around it.

Tell you what I could wrap my hands around though; I nice steak. Thanks for making me hungry Oxhorn!

So, nothing special machinima-wise, but figured I'd ask if this was an official Blizzard piece or not.

The gentleman that created "I'm so sick" does visit these boards so he can probably better help you there. What I can tell you is that the character models are on your computer and available in WoW Model Viewer as of a couple patches ago.

I signed up for it once upon a time just to see some pictures a buddy of mine said were of some hot girl.

She was not that hot.

I don't use it since it's the same, in my opinion, as myspace and I don't even use that.

Oh yeah and the banner is from teh machinima festival so it has all teh people on the booth in it. So shooshies! It can always get even more crowded as the days go on!

You know, you could make me feel better about not getting a booth spot by actually publishing the interview you did with Mac and I at some point in time.

What can I say; I'm an attention whore.

And what's up with it saying the Halloween special was submitted by "The Grind" rather than Oblivious Films?
