Hello guys

I am sorry but my english is not so good ^^

I would now that you use programs to create your own music
or do you choose music from famous films like lord of the rings.
I see so many films where the sound match to film like in zinwrath the movie.

if you don't have any pro tools like Jun has... use the ones from different composers. LOTR soundtrack isn't by far the most famous btw ))

I have almost zero music skills so I chop up and use music from:
The 300 soundtrack
The Batman Begins soundtrack
The Eragon soundtrack (bleargh)
The Halo soundtrack
The Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 soundtracks
The Serenity/Firefly soundtrack
The Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack
The Kingdom of Heaven soundtrack
The Shadow of the Collossus soundtrack
And of course, the World of Warcraft soundtracks, including all the hidden music which I get with MyWarcraftStudio

Damn, that's a lot of soundtracks.

I wish I could make my own music sometimes, but I just don't have those skills. Music just isn't my thing.

Actually, most of amazing soundtracks are written by the same composers:

Hans Zimmer (Pirates of the Carribean, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Batman Begins)
James Horner (Titanic)
Harry Gregson-Williams (Deja Vu, Gone Baby Gone)
John Murphy (28 Weeks Later, Sunshine)
and few more...

Jeremy Soule (Morrowind)
Jason Hayes (World of Warcraft)

Music is a key element to any movie production IMHO. It sets the mood of the production, and can be used to change moods scene by scene. Its a very powerful part of your machinima movie.

Myself, the first machinima productions that I created were all 'music videos.' It was a great way for me to begin to learn how to synchronize character movements on screen to the music, whic for me, was much easier than trying to sync voice over tracks. And, those productions are fun to show people too - even my 75 year old mother enjoys them! When I am struggling with other, more difficult compositing tasks in a long term project, sometimes I drop back and make another music video just for the fun of it. (I am actually doing that now, and when I am done, I will post it here).

However, music can have a downside as well. "Third party" music tracks, such as those you take from "300" or "LOTR," or Metallica's Black Album, etc., are original works of authorship and the composers and performers are entitled to copyright protection of their works and performances. So, far, as best I can tell, the big, bad music industry hasn't asserted its rights over 'non-commercial' distribution (i.e., "Youtube") of machinima works that include Third Party music, which is a good thing, as nothing ruins your day faster than a letter from a law firm asking that you "cease and desist" from using a composer or peformer's music.

Still, if you are producing a machinima production for a contest, or festival, make sure to check the rules. I bet you will see that you must be able to vouch that you have the rights to use the music in your machinima production to be eligible to win. If you are using WoW music, you are in luck, as Blizzard will grant you the rights to use their music for machinima contests and festivals.

Of course, if you have the talent to write, perform and produce your own music, that always works! Especially if it is good! Go Jun!!
