(.Machinima.) the right to display, modify and edit your entry for the purposes of promoting and advertising your entry and the Contest. By entering, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules including all eligibility requirements. By accepting a prize, winners consent to the use of their names, images, likenesses, photo, voices, and biographical materials for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes by Machinima, Blizzard, Sanctuary Records, The Ataris, NVIDIA, or a party designated byMachinima, Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., Sanctuary Records, The Ataris or NVIDIA, including but not limited to, any online announcements, without additional notice or compensation, except where prohibited by law. Entrants agree that any and all disputes shall be governed by the laws of the State of California. Entrants agree that the conditions of submission set forth in these Official Rules, and all documents and agreements incorporated in these Official Rules by reference, solely govern the relationship between entrants and Sponsor in connection with this Contest.

7. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for illegible, lost, delayed, misdirected or incomplete entries, system errors and failures, faulty transmissions, or other telecommunications malfunctions. Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate or suspend the Contest should any unauthorized intervention or other cause beyond the control of the Sponsor affect the administration or conduct of the Contest.

8. The rights granted under this paragraph shall extend to Machinima and its affiliated companies with respect to all entries and all other submitted materials related to the Contest, including those submitted by non-winners and winners.

9. Judging: One First Place Winner, one Second Place Winner and one Third Place Winner will be chosen by the online community, via a provided voting/rating system, with final approval/selection by the Sponsor. All decisions by the Sponsor are final.

Starting at midnight, June 17, 2007 (that being 0:00:00 A.M. PDT), anyone can simply go to a video entry page, review the video, and rate the video by clicking on the stars. Voting will end on 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on June 26, 2007.

If no one has rated the video yet, all stars will be blank. If others have rated the video, the weighted average will appear with red filling in the stars. The weighted average displayed is rounded to the nearest half point, i.e. 3.5, 4.0, etc., though our database keeps the actual number. When an online user rates an entry video, the current selection shows stars highlighted with a gold border. The red coloring is still the overall weighted average with that entry's rating included.

Each online visitor can only rate a video once. If an online visitor changes their mind about the rating that they have given to you entry, the most recent rating selected will be calculated into the total, and the previous selection will be removed. So voting a hundred times for one entry will only result in one vote for an entry.

At the end of the voting period, there may be a clear winner, or there may not be a clear winner. Sponsor's contest staff will, if necessary, apply a fair mathematical algorithm which will give a slight, additional weight to entries with more votes. This is to prevent a 5.0 winner with one vote from winning over a 4.9 average rating with 100 votes, for example.

Sponsor may also enable, if necessary, a program to prevent low-vote abuse. In other words, Sponsor would like to discourage voters from voting for one video with a 5 and all other videos with a 1 to throw the system off balance. If low-vote abuse is suspected, Sponsor reserves the right to withdraw all votes from the offending voter, and/or disqualify any entry associated with that voter/user.

In order for ratings to work, you must have JavaScript and browser cookies enabled.

10. Prizes:

* 1st place: NVIDIA GeForce series graphic card plus an autographed copy of the "Welcome the Night" album and poster.
* 2nd place: NVIDIA GeForce series graphic card plus an autographed copy of the "Welcome the Night" album and poster.
* 3rd place: NVIDIA GeForce series graphic card plus an autographed copy of the "Welcome the Night" album and poster.

All taxes and any other costs and expenses not specifically stated within these Official Rules are the sole responsibility of the winners. Prizes may not be transferred, substituted or redeemed for cash, except at Sponsor's sole discretion. Specifics of the prizes are in Sponsor 's sole discretion. Prizes are subject to availability and Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to award a prize of equal or greater value if advertised prizes or a portion of the prizes is unavailable.

Wow - you're up late on that one!!

Great job, Ox - I remember from your WCradio interview that someone said you were the best "amature machinima maker" - Well, I reckon that everybody better think twice before calling Brandon M. Dennis "amature"!

Try exporting with Adobe Media Converter to a 320 x 240 WMV 400 kbs video / 64 kbs audio.

That's normally where I start and play with it from there.

WMV will give you way better compression than AVI, but AVI rocks the quality.

Obviously compression is different for every project depending on the level of detail (text, background elements, etc.)

When I want something on the web, this is usually my standard.

Hope this helps!

Makes ya wonder if it falls into Machinima at that point?

Now THAT'S a good question.

I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on Machinima!

There's so many different levels of the art form - from die hard pure to sugar free diet.

It begs the question where do we draw the line?

I mean, technically, as soon as you fire up After Effects for a little compositing magic, you've exited the real time render environment of the game.

Especially with how powerful AE is - particles, 3D cameras, Image tracking & stabilzation, etc...

The great debate rages on in other places on the net and I'd like to know what we think!

I think this was a totally animated feature using game elements.

Lots of the questions posed here are covered on his FAQ on the GT page.

I thought it was phenomenal, lots and lots of work to pull that off.

One of the best action machinima films I've seen.

In other related randomness, has anyone else seen that Ivy music video from South Korea that's a live action remake of the Tifa fight scene in FF:AC? I think they tried to do a shot-by-shot remake, and it looks pretty well done--though I don't have FF:AC to compare it with and it's been months since I watched it.

That is pretty sick.

FF: AC is some of the best CG I've seen in my life.

This video is a shot by shot remake - complete with the dancing.

It's here!

Yay!

Apple skipped a release last year, letting us Final Cut Studio users simmer in our own envy as the Adobe Production Suite reined down hellfire on our fandom.

Some much needed upgrades are here for serious video producers.

Looks like further HD support and interoperability with multiple clip settings have turned FCP into a giant "easy" button.

Not so much an issue with Machinima, but in real world production (especially low budget) you may have a mismatching cameras or formats.

Motion 3(D) breaks into the third dimension! Particles, replicators, lights, and cameras all have 3D properties.

After Effect particles are strictly 2D - you need Particular for 3D particles (see DWP's awesome Matrix shot).

Motion 3 works in real time - no ram previews.

This is a godsend for tight deadlines and quick turnarounds that are found in high stress production environments (The news or other live events).

Although, don't be fooled, you're going to need a massive rig to work with the 20 4k HD video windows that orbit around each other then explode...

I can see the 3D particles working well for Machinima, but they're far from new news (Particular) - working in real-time could help those machinimators that don't like to plan each shot exactly.

Motion is by no means a replacement for After Effects - the industry heavyweight is a standard at almost every production house I've ever seen (in combination with Autodesk Smoke & Flame).

Soundtrack 2 is hyping 5.1 Surround mixing - pretty neat stuff.

The price of the entire studio upgrade ($500) that includes Soundtrack 2's 1000 royalty free SFX and loops is worth it just for the loops (speaking generally, a good set of loops alone MSRPs for $250)

Soundtrack is starting to match the audio repair features already found in Adobe Audition.

Apple's Color is a brand new app for the Suite, and looks just as powerful as a mid/high end color correction rigs.

This program looks pretty fun - you can work with color like you've never been able to with a standard 3 way color correct filter.

Compressor 3 is awesome too... if Quicktime was the universal movie standard of all time.

A new set of compressing codecs is more headache than anything - making sure everyone is on the same codec, the latest version, etc. is a nightmare for long distance review sessions.

DVD Studio Pro 4 is still a dream.

It's as simple or as complicated as you want to be. Nothing except the usual HD additions and tighter integration with the rest of the studio.

All in all, even at full price $1200, these programs are worth it. Their ability to stand alone or supplement your current workflow make them overall more valuable tool for the production minded than the Machinima artist.

Dude.

Not cool.

I can't believe they just told you.

That's the kinda thing that needs to be said upfront.

Contests are emotionally hard enough as is - a lot of waiting for the ultimate result, which then results in rainbow happy times or the pitch black void of machinima hell. :ermm:

Anyway... I think it's awesome that you've made a name for youself.

You're the underdog going against the legend!
