Jun! Great to see you again, but I thought you'd be too busy to return to machinima. Hope everything's going great (and that could be great in the omg-what-am-i-doing-this-is-crazy sort of great).

I could have used a little more egregiously-animated title action, but otherwise the vid plays smooth and tight, as I would expect from Stone Falcon. Reminds me a lot of Dr. Horrible.

Hey, you planning on appearing at BlizzCon? (Should tickets ever ACTUALLY be available for purchase... -_-;; )

Hiyas! I don't think I am going to BUY a Blizzcon ticket this year. Now, if someone was to GIVE me one, I might go :) I will probably go meet people down there for dinner and such, however - if you recall, I live not too far from there.

Yeah this was done for a CoH contest. It had to be under 4 minutes so I packed in as much as I could >< (the actual version submitted had all credits stripped off it). Re: Dr. Horrible - I made the first CoH vid with this character over 2 years ago, waaay before Dr. Horrible, so THERE! :P

As for work - well, it kinda took a left turn :( long story, but I'll get back up on the horse again soon I hope. So yeah back to the machinima for now.

In my WoW-machinima I need two windows to break in two different scenes and the program Im using is Adobe Premiere Pro / Adobe Elements 3.0 so I aint got the shatter effect. Any tip of how I can make it?
(At the moment Im doing it the easy way, not showing the breaking itself but the pieces of glass flying across the room, I want to show the viewers the shatter itself.)

Thanks for the help.
/Wizeer

You probably have to animate this. You'd have more control over the direction of the glass if you animated it, anyway.

I'm also thinking that if you download tons of stuff, do you check your computer regularly for spyware, viruses, etc? Do you clean it out once in a while? Do you de-frag your HD? You better. That stuff can make your computer slow to a crawl too.

This here's an interesting documentary film being made about MMORPG gamers. The trailer looks intriguing.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to announce (sadly) that Snacky's Journal - Ep. 4 will be my last machinima for the forseeable future. The reason is that I have just been signed to direct an animated feature film, which will make it impossible to work on any side projects. I think I will be able to finish the Snacky episode currently underway for next month, but after that I think my free time will grow really...well, nonexistant, so I am guessing this is pretty much the end of the machinima road for me, at least for now. But animation is and always will be my primary love, and I am extremely excited, and of course a tad nervous, about this opportunity. You see, I was fired from a feature film three years ago and have been trying to get back into the director's chair ever since - and now I am not only being given an opportunity to do so, but it is in a genre I love (sci-fi) and haven't been able to direct in until now. I better not blow it! :teehee:

I have really, really enjoyed being a part of the WoW machinima community for the past few years. It's been amazing to see everyone grow together and help each other and see our projects get better and better. It has been my privilege to meet many of you in person and you are all wonderful and talented people. I will definitely try to check in from time to time and see your awesome new films! I especially want to thank the video staff at Blizzard for all their community support, and the wcm.com staff for all their great work in promoting and encouraging WoW machinima.

Thanks guys. See you at the movies.

Speak for yourself. Vegas is a rockin' composting tool.

Yes, I agree it's good for COMPOSTING. Throw it right on in there with the rotten veggies, I say!

Compositing, on the other hand.... :whistling:

OK, to be fair, I've never used Vegas, but then again I never plan to, because I have Premiere and After Effects! And look, the reality is, if he's doing huge multi-layer shots, it's easier to work in tandem with After Effects up than to keep having to render off shots and re-load the timeline. Either that or you are overloading the timeline and the program's gonna run slooooooowwwwwww....

To those who don't under stand Question #4...

I mean, you know how a video switches it's capture point... For example it zooms in and out in a scene... Well.. take Stop the Cavalry for an example... It goes to many different capture points... From the horses entering, to the props entering and rolling by, than back to the singer dwarf. How do you do THAT with only Editor, Map Viewer, and Model Viewer?

-Wingedillidan

Are you talking about shots and cuts??? You just....change the sizes and angles, man! I really don't understand what you are asking about either. I mean...it kind of sounds like you just need to pick up a primer book on basic filmmaking, period.

BTW never seen that vid and it's kinda cute :D

this thread helped alot, thanks for the tutorial link
however, I am having an issue with the following:

I'll record the main character on the far right side of the screen as if he's looking down on something, /fraps that/

then record the bugs n such for the 'army' /fraps that/

when i throw it all into vegas, it's like it was all recorded at different sizes and I can't pan/ crop the hero to the far right to make it look like his other shoulder is off screen.

my question: how do you make fraps record everything the same way?

-lygher

If you are going to seriously get into these really complex composites, you might want to think about getting After Effects. Premiere/Vegas really are meant as editing tools and not so much visual creation/compositing tools.

Question #4
How do you make the camera switch to different views/zooms using only the editor/model viewer?

Edit: With characters in the scene too..

YOU do that. Move closer to get a close-up shot and further away to get a wide shot... I don't really understand the question otherwise. What you see is what you get! If you have a mouse with a wheel for example, roll the wheel back and forth to zoom in and out of the characters in modelview.

lol while you're in a helpful mood (hopefully), how do you all typically get your sound effects from WoW pulled out with decent quality?

Download My Warcraft Studio, it extracts the sound files for you and you can save them as .wavs.

One trick I've been using lately for modelviewer animation combos is, to have the first one running and then, while frapsing that, hit the second one at the right time so they meld smoothly and I don't have to try to line em up in AE. Sometimes it takes a few tries, I just toss the mistakes. If there's more than 2, I then move to the third one and edit out the repeated moves in between the first and third, which is easier than lining up separate captures. Of course this doesn't work quite as well with walking and running.

Hi people.

I've been trying to figure out how to do this for a pretty long time now, however, in machinima movies you can usually see huge armies of units saluting someone or charging into war for example and then I'm talking about scenes not made in-game. So I wonder how I multiply 1 unit into more units without having to make like 50 timelines in Vegas. The question might be a bit newbish but I haven't been able to figure it out.

I'll be greatly thankful for any help given!

You need a compositing program like After Effects :P

This seems like a natural merger and a good idea!

Lets try to keep this site an open discussion site though, that's what I love about it. I'm always afraid to comment on wcm.com cause angry rabid fanboys will flame me in leetspeak! It's nice that there are some actual debates that go on here, with people who use complete sentences, hehe.

Anyway I hope the site stays as groovy as it is and I look forward to the exciting new whatevers you come up with.
