For example, in the game when certain models, such as the Frostbolt, the Pheonix mount, and Arcane Missiles are in motion, leave behind a trail in the air. This effect is a pain in the ass to replicate in Vegas, and I was wondering if anyone had any tricks they use to do it easier.

I don't know about vegas, but in AE you can use beziers to warp and bend a layer like a ribbon.

I figured out at way to do it.
I create a long, skinny image with the look I want, in Photoshop (or a tapering image if its going to be moving away/toward the camera,) then I place it on the path I want the projectile to take. I put the projectile on the layer above it, and hide a sharp linear wipe behind the projectile, then following a feathered linear wipe to simulate the trail fading. For this I used a mask to simulate the wipe, not the actual linear wipe transition, so I can have the trail already fading before the projectile has finished "drawing" it. Neat, huh. -------------------- |

I figured out an even better looking and more efficient way to do it, which I've elaborated on in my blog. What'd ya think?
