Dumb-down a quality explanation? Options

Hello :),

I did a search to get some help, but I am afraid that apart from WoW and Quickbooks online I am a little...well, tech challenged. Unfortunately, the explanations already in the forums went over my head.

Here is my problem:

I purchased Adobe Premiere Elements 4 and imported video shot from fraps. When I view the video from fraps, it is very clean and clear. When I view it from Adobe, it is pixilated. I attempted to try the Windows Movie maker, just to see if it would make a difference. But I have the same problem. If I view the video from the import section, it is fine. But when I drag it down, I get that same pixilated appearance.

Oh how I wish there was a "Machinima for Dummies"! :) hehe If anyone could lead me through how I could take care of this problem, I would appreciate it very very much.

Actually, there is a Machinima for Dummies book for some while already. But I assume this pixelating is just because of some mismatch in fraps footage resolution and your adobe/wmm project resolutions.

Thanks for the response. I will be purchasing that book. Do you know if there is a way to fix the "mismatch" with either adobe or WMM?

Is there a better term for me to search for? I am not getting many hits with pixelating or resolution.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Be it links, sites, books that will help me get past this problem.

You won't find much result for this easy one. Try checking the resolution in footage properties (right click on that video file) and then, when creating new project in wmm or adobe set the same resolution or be sure that it isn't bigger than yours.

That is indeed the problem. I am glad this sounds like an easy fix. I am wondering if there is a way to change the resolution on the footage. It appears that for the adobe premiere elements 4, the resolution is not customizable as it is for the pro version. And it is indeed set smaller than the file. I could not figure out how too make the actual video the same or smaller than the set resolution of the software. (the closest I came was right clicking on the vid file but properties gave me no option to change them) Or if anyone knows how to do so with WMM any help would be appreciated.

I will eventially purchase the pro version of adobe, but want to get a little experience first. Thanks for helping this old man out! I am a huge noob at the moment, but learning my way fast. You all who know your way around the PC so well, make it seem very easy. I will get there and thank you for your help.

If you want to change video file resolution it'll be just pain in the arse, the whole process of re-rendering. It's a right decision to get the Pro version, cause Elements is too user-friendly that even I couldn't find in google where to change the input resolution in it :)) Don't waste your time on it

adobe premeir always does that as well as other programs like vegas and such. i had a really high quality video but in the previewer it looked pixelated too, however once i rendered it out it was clear like the orignional and perfect. (btw, when you render or export in premeir make sure that it doesnt auto compress for you, it will destroy the video quality

Thanks Justin and Bear! Being so new to this, I didnt even have a baseline to be able to make the correct googles to help me find answers. I did purchase Machinima for Dummies and even though I am unhappy with video quality, I went ahead and put together my first test. I made this one to basically learn some of this ins and outs of the Editing software even though I only scratched the surface.

So its poor quality, and several scenes would have to be reshot and/or fixed. But it did fit my purpose, learning how to navigate the adobe a little.

I didnt want to put it in the "share your work" section of the forum since you are all crazy good...but once I get the modelveiwer working and buy the pro version of adobe I will put something up. Most likely I will redo this story with the modelveiwer as well as voice overs instead of music. This was just a test.

Question:

Have any of you ever gotten this error message when trying to run modelviewer?

"This application has failed to start because glew32.dll was not found." EDIT: Figured it out! :) so error message no longer applies
